KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.86 g, 12 h), Kalchedon, circa 260-220. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY - BAΣIΛEΩΣ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in inner left field, monogram; in exergue, grain ear to left. HGC 7, 521. Price 924 corr. ('Kallatis'). Wartenberg & Kagan, 'Some Comments on a New Hoard from the Balkan Sea' in Travaux Le Rider, pp. 402–5 (for reattribution to Kalchedon). Nicely toned and struck in high relief. Very light marks and with light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
